Definition
A 'lasiocampid' is a moth belonging to the family Lasiocampidae. These moths, often called lappet moths or eggars, are generally medium to large in size. They're characterized by their hairy bodies and wings. Their caterpillars are also hairy and may possess distinctive lappets (flaps) along their sides. Many species are found in temperate regions worldwide. Some are considered pests due to their consumption of trees and shrubs.
