Definition
Lasiocampidae is a family of moths known as lappet moths or eggars. 🦋 They are medium to large in size and often have hairy bodies. Their caterpillars are also hairy and frequently have distinctive lappets (flaps) on their sides. These moths are found worldwide, particularly in temperate regions. Many species are economically significant as pests of trees and shrubs. They play a role in forest ecosystems, both as consumers and as food for other animals.
