Definition
Line engraving is a printmaking technique where lines are incised (cut) directly into a metal plate using a tool called a burin. Itβs a meticulous process that requires skill and precision. Ink is then applied to the grooves, the surface is wiped clean, and the plate is pressed onto paper, transferring the ink from the lines. This creates a print with fine, detailed lines. It is used for high-quality illustrations.
