The lower jawbone is a straightforward term for the mandible, the bone forming the lower part of your face. It cradles your lower teeth, facilitating chewing and speaking. Think of it as the foundation for your chin. Unlike the upper jawbone (maxilla), the lower jawbone is movable. It connects to the skull at the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Its main role is enabling mastication (chewing) and speech articulation.
