Definition
Luminescence is the emission of light by a substance not caused by heat. β¨ This includes fluorescence (like glow sticks), phosphorescence (glow-in-the-dark stickers), and bioluminescence (fireflies). It involves the absorption of energy, which is then released as light. Unlike incandescence, it's not due to temperature. Think of it as "cold light". Bioluminescence is a great example.
