*Mahonia nervosa*, or Cascade barberry, is a low-growing evergreen shrub. It is native to the Pacific Northwest of North America π². Its leaves are compound, with spiny leaflets resembling holly. Yellow flowers bloom in spring, followed by blue-black berries. It prefers shady, moist environments. While not a true barberry, it shares similar characteristics. Think of it as the chill, laid-back cousin of other *Mahonia* species.
