Definition
A malaria parasite is a single-celled protozoan belonging to the genus *Plasmodium* that causes malaria. These parasites are transmitted to humans through the bites of infected *Anopheles* mosquitoes. Once inside the human body, the parasite infects liver cells and then red blood cells, leading to the characteristic symptoms of malaria. Different species of malaria parasites cause different forms of malaria, with varying severity. Think of it as a tiny invader disrupting the body's normal functions. These parasites are like unwelcome squatters in your bloodstream. Their actions can lead to serious health problems.
