Definition
The mandibular joint, more commonly known as the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), is the hinge that connects your lower jaw (mandible) to your skull. It allows you to open and close your mouth, chew, and speak. Think of it as the essential joint for all your talking and eating activities. It's located on each side of your face, just in front of your ears. Problems with the TMJ can lead to pain and discomfort. π«
