The marsupial mole is a small, burrowing marsupial found in the sandy deserts of Western Australia. Unlike placental moles, marsupial moles are not closely related, but have evolved similar features independently. They possess a leathery nose shield and strong claws for digging. Think of them as the sand-swimming equivalent of a fish. They are rarely seen, spending almost their entire lives underground. They are a fascinating example of convergent evolution.
