Definition
Mecoptera is an order of insects commonly known as scorpionflies. ๐ฆ Despite the name, most aren't actually scorpion-like; it usually refers to the males' upturned genitalia. They have long, slender bodies and narrow, many-veined wings. Mecoptera are often found in moist environments. They feed on dead insects and decaying vegetation. Think of them as the cleanup crew of the insect world, but with a quirky tail.
