The medial rectus is an eye muscle responsible for adduction, which means moving the eye inward, toward your nose. It's one of the strongest and most frequently used extraocular muscles. Think of it as the muscle that helps you go cross-eyed... but hopefully, you're not doing that too often! It works in coordination with the lateral rectus to allow you to focus on things close to you. This muscle allows you to easily follow objects as they get closer. Problems with this muscle can lead to issues with binocular vision.
