Definition
Melanoderma refers to an abnormal darkening of the skin caused by an excess of melanin. It's a specific type of hyperpigmentation, where areas of the skin become significantly darker than the surrounding tissue. Think of it as the opposite of albinism, where there's a lack of melanin. Melanoderma can result from various factors, including sun exposure, hormonal changes, or certain medical conditions. Basically, it's when your skin goes into overdrive producing pigment.
