Narcissism is characterized by an exaggerated sense of self-importance, a deep need for excessive attention and admiration, troubled relationships, and a lack of empathy for others. People with narcissistic traits often believe they are superior to others and have a sense of entitlement. This can manifest as arrogance, a need to be the center of attention, and a tendency to exploit others. It is distinct from healthy self-esteem or confidence. It describes a spectrum of behaviors, ranging from personality traits to a full-blown personality disorder.
