Definition
The neoencephalon, often interchanged with neocortex, is the "new brain," evolutionarily speaking. It's most developed in mammals, especially humans, and itβs the region responsible for advanced cognitive functions. Think reasoning, language, and conscious thought β that's all neoencephalon. It's where we process complex information, make decisions, and experience awareness. Essentially, it's the part of the brain that makes us uniquely human. Damage can impact these high-level functions.
