Definition
The neural arch, also known as the vertebral arch, is the bony arch that encloses and protects the spinal cord. It forms the posterior (back) part of a vertebra. Imagine it as a protective doorway shielding the delicate spinal cord from injury. Without it, the spinal cord would be exposed and vulnerable. Humans, along with many vertebrates, have neural arches as essential components of their vertebral column.
