Definition
Numismatology is essentially synonymous with numismatics, both referring to the scientific study of coins, paper money, and medals. The two terms are often used interchangeably. However, "numismatology" might imply a more academic or scientific approach than "numismatics," which can also encompass casual collecting. It's like the difference between astronomy and stargazing. Both involve looking at the heavens, but one is more structured and rigorous. So while a hobbyist might call it numismatics, scholars might prefer numismatology.
