"Ocotillo" is a desert plant characterized by long, spiny stems that resemble whips. 🌵 It's native to the southwestern United States and Mexico. Imagine a bunch of thorny sticks coming out of the ground, which quickly sprout leaves after rain. Unlike a cactus, its stems are not fleshy and do not store water. Instead, it relies on its ability to quickly grow and shed leaves in response to moisture.
