Definition
"Opisthocomidae" is a family of birds that contains only one living species: the hoatzin. These birds are found in the swamps, riverine forests, and mangroves of the Amazon and Orinoco basins in South America. They are known for their unique digestive system, which allows them to ferment vegetation, much like cows. Imagine them as the avian equivalent of a ruminant animal π. They also have a distinctive, somewhat unpleasant odor, earning them the nickname 'stinkbird'.
