"Painted tortoise" is not a standard or scientifically accurate term. The turtles known as "painted turtles" (genus Chrysemys) are turtles that primarily live in water, while tortoises are land-dwelling turtles. Painted turtles have colorful markings, but the term "tortoise" implies a terrestrial lifestyle that they do not have. Using the term βpainted tortoiseβ would be similar to calling a goldfish a painted shark; it simply isn't right! π¦
