Definition
Pennatulidae is a family of sea pens, a type of soft coral that resembles a quill pen. These colonial cnidarians are unique in their morphology and lifestyle. They consist of a primary polyp that forms a stalk (the rachis) and numerous secondary polyps that branch off from it (the leaves). Think of them as underwater feathers anchored in the seabed. ✒️ They are found in deeper waters and often bioluminescent. They add an ethereal beauty to the ocean floor.
