Definition
Phylum Nemertea consists of ribbon worms, unsegmented worms characterized by a unique proboscis housed in a fluid-filled cavity. These mostly marine creatures are carnivorous, using their proboscis to capture prey. Think of them as the ocean's stealth hunters. They exhibit a simple body plan with a complete digestive system and a closed circulatory system. Nemerteans range in size from a few millimeters to several meters. They are more complex than flatworms but simpler than annelids. They live in a variety of marine habitats, from shallow coastal waters to the deep sea. 🌊
