A picture tube, also known as a cathode-ray tube (CRT), was the display component in older televisions and computer monitors. It worked by firing electron beams onto a screen coated with phosphors, which would glow when struck, creating an image. Think of it as a high-tech canvas where electrons paint the picture. These tubes were bulky and heavy, but they were the standard for decades. Nowadays, flat-screen TVs using LCD or LED technology have replaced them.
