Piranga olivacea, or the scarlet tanager, is a medium-sized American songbird. Males sport bright red plumage with black wings and tail, while females are yellowish-olive. They are migratory, breeding in eastern North America and wintering in northwestern South America. Their diet includes insects, berries, and fruits. These birds are often found in deciduous forests. They are like the chameleons of the bird world, changing their appearance with the seasons and sex.
