A platyhelminth (also spelled platyhelminthe) is any member of the phylum Platyhelminthes, commonly known as flatworms. 🪱 These creatures are characterized by their flat, soft bodies and lack of a body cavity. They exhibit bilateral symmetry and range in size from microscopic to several meters long. Platyhelminths include free-living forms like planarians, as well as parasitic forms like flukes and tapeworms. Their simple body plan belies a remarkable diversity of lifestyles and adaptations.
