The pond cypress is a close relative of the bald cypress, sharing many similarities but with some distinct differences. It typically grows in shallower, more pond-like environments than the bald cypress, giving it its name. Its leaves are more scale-like and appressed to the stem compared to the bald cypress. Think of it as the bald cypress's slightly smaller, more refined cousin. Both are deciduous conifers, but the pond cypress has a more delicate appearance.
