The 'Qassam Brigades' are the military wing of Hamas, a Palestinian Sunni-Islamist fundamentalist organization. Formed in 1991, their main goal is establishing an independent Palestinian state, often using armed resistance against Israel. They're named after Izz ad-Din al-Qassam, a Syrian Muslim preacher who fought against British and French rule in the early 20th century. The group is known for its rocket attacks and suicide bombings. Unlike a conventional army, it operates primarily as a guerilla force. Their actions are considered terrorism by some and resistance by others. ⚠️
