Definition
Recency refers to the state of being recent or new; it emphasizes how recently something happened or was created. It's about the 'newness' factor β how close to the present moment something is. For example, a news story has recency if it just broke, but loses it as time passes. Recency often implies relevance and importance, as more recent information is usually considered more reliable or up-to-date. Unlike 'frequency', it does not deal with repetition. Think of recency as the opposite of something being 'old news'.
