Definition
Red marrow is a type of bone marrow responsible for producing red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. It's the active, blood-cell-generating part of the marrow. Think of it as the engine room of blood cell production. It's found mainly in flat bones like the skull, ribs, and vertebrae. It's red because of the presence of hemoglobin in developing red blood cells. Red marrow is essential for oxygen transport, immune function, and blood clotting. Without it, your body can't efficiently replenish its blood supply.
