Relative density compares the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance, usually water π§. It tells you if something will float or sink. If the relative density is less than 1, it floats; if it's greater than 1, it sinks. Imagine dropping olive oil (relative density less than 1) into water β it floats! Relative density simplifies comparing densities without using exact numbers. This differs from regular density, which is mass per volume.
