A retinal rod, also known as a rod cell, is a type of photoreceptor cell in the retina responsible for vision in low light conditions. They are much more sensitive to light than cones. These do not detect color but are crucial for seeing at night or in dim environments. Think of these as your eyes' ambient light sensors, allowing you to navigate in the dark. 🌙 They are mostly located outside the macula in the peripheral retina.
