Definition
The right ventricle is the heart chamber responsible for pumping deoxygenated blood to the lungs via the pulmonary artery. It receives blood from the right atrium. It has thinner walls than the left ventricle, as it pumps blood only to the nearby lungs. Think of it as the heart's secondary engine, sending blood for oxygenation. Efficient function of the right ventricle is crucial for pulmonary circulation. Dysfunction can lead to pulmonary hypertension.
