The Sacred College, also known as the College of Cardinals, is a body of cardinals who advise the Pope and, most importantly, elect a new Pope when the previous one dies or resigns. Cardinals are high-ranking officials in the Catholic Church, usually archbishops or bishops of major dioceses. The Sacred College is responsible for maintaining continuity in the papacy. Think of it like a board of directors for a global corporation, ensuring leadership transitions smoothly. Their primary role is electing the next Pope.
