Definition
"Salsola soda" is a glasswort or opposite-leaved saltwort that is native to the coasts of Eurasia and North Africa. It's an annual plant that grows in saline (salty) soils. It's characterized by its succulent, cylindrical leaves. Historically, it was burned to produce soda ash for glassmaking. Think of it as the OG source of soda for more than just drinks! It prefers salty environments.
