Saxo Grammaticus (c. 1150 – c. 1220) was a Danish historian and theologian. He's best known for writing the Gesta Danorum, a comprehensive history of Denmark. Saxo served as a clerk for Archbishop Absalon of Lund. The Gesta Danorum provides insights into Danish history, mythology, and folklore. It is an important source for understanding Scandinavian history. Saxo's work is written in Latin and reflects the intellectual climate of the time.
