Definition
A scarab is a stylized representation of a beetle, especially the dung beetle (*Scarabaeus sacer*), revered in ancient Egypt as a symbol of rebirth and regeneration. These amulets and seals were commonly used in jewelry, art, and funerary objects. Think of them as ancient good-luck charms. The scarab beetle's habit of rolling dung into balls was seen as analogous to the sun god Ra rolling the sun across the sky. Scarabs represent potent symbols of transformation and eternal life. 🪲
