A sea otter (*Enhydra lutris*) is a marine mammal found along the Pacific coastlines. These charismatic creatures are the smallest marine mammals in North America and among the smallest in the world. Unlike most marine mammals, they lack blubber and rely on their incredibly dense fur for insulation. They are known for their playful behavior, often seen floating on their backs while using rocks to crack open shellfish. Sea otters are a keystone species, playing a vital role in maintaining the health of kelp forest ecosystems by controlling sea urchin populations. Conservation efforts have helped their populations recover after near extinction.
