Definition
A sea slug is a marine gastropod 🐌 that has either lost its shell completely or has a very reduced internal shell. These creatures come in a wide variety of colors, shapes, and sizes, often displaying striking patterns. They are found in oceans around the world, from shallow coastal waters to the deep sea. Some sea slugs are carnivorous, feeding on sponges or other invertebrates, while others are herbivorous, grazing on algae. Think of them as the colorful, shell-less snails of the sea. Unlike their shelled relatives, sea slugs rely on other defense mechanisms, such as camouflage or toxic secretions, to protect themselves.
