Definition
A shorttail weasel, also known as an ermine or stoat, is a small carnivorous mammal in the Mustelidae family. It's recognized for its long, slender body and short tail, usually less than half its body length. The shorttail weasel's coat changes seasonally; brown in summer and white in winter, except for the black tip of its tail. These animals are adept hunters, feeding primarily on rodents and small birds. They thrive in colder climates, including North America and Eurasia. Its seasonal coat change helps it blend in for hunting and avoiding predators.
