Definition
A synovial joint is a type of joint that allows for a wide range of movement. Think of it as a well-oiled hinge. These joints have a fluid-filled cavity between the bones, called the synovial cavity, which reduces friction. Examples include your knee, shoulder, and elbow. They're characterized by a capsule of connective tissue, cartilage covering the bone surfaces, and synovial fluid lubricating the joint. Unlike fibrous joints, synovial joints prioritize mobility over stability. They are essential for almost all kinds of physical activities. Without them, even walking would be difficult!
