Definition
A tape cartridge is a container holding magnetic tape used for data storage or audio recording. It protects the tape from damage and simplifies handling. In data storage, cartridges are used for backups and archiving. In audio, they were popular for music playback (e.g., 8-track tapes). Compared to open reels, cartridges offer greater convenience and durability. They were eventually replaced by digital media like CDs and flash drives.
