Definition
Thysanoptera is the scientific order that includes thrips, tiny insects with fringed wings. These insects are slender and typically less than 1/8 inch long. They feed on plants and fungi, sometimes causing damage to crops. Think of Thysanoptera as minuscule vampires of the plant world, sucking the life out of leaves and flowers. Some species are beneficial, acting as pollinators or predators of other pests.
