Toothwort, also known as crinkleroot or pepper root, is a spring ephemeral found in moist woodlands. 🌸 Its rhizome (underground stem) has tooth-like projections, hence the name. Think of it as nature's little chomper beneath the soil. 🦷 Unlike evergreens, toothwort emerges briefly in spring, flowers, and then disappears until the next year. Its flowers are typically white or pink, adding a delicate touch to the forest floor. The rhizome has a peppery or spicy flavor.
