A tragopan is a type of pheasant native to Asia, known for its vibrant plumage and unique inflatable lappets or bibs that males display during courtship. They inhabit mountainous forests and are relatively shy. They are also called horned pheasants because of small fleshy "horns" that appear during mating displays. Imagine a flamboyant bird with a built-in party trick. Conservation efforts are crucial to protect these stunning but vulnerable birds.
