The umbilical cord is like a lifeline connecting a developing baby to its mother during pregnancy. It's a flexible tube containing blood vessels that transport oxygen and nutrients from the mother to the baby, and waste products from the baby back to the mother. Think of it as a super-efficient delivery service ensuring the baby's growth and survival. After birth, it's no longer needed and is clamped and cut, leaving a belly button. It doesn’t have any nerves, so neither mom nor baby feels pain during this process. It is like a biological cable.
