Definition
"Vena diploica" is the Latin term for a diploic vein, a network of veins located within the diploe (spongy bone) of the skull. These veins connect the extracranial veins with the intracranial venous sinuses. π They are unique due to their location within the skull bone. These veins lack valves, allowing bidirectional blood flow. They provide a pathway for blood drainage within the skull. The term is a standard anatomical reference.
