Definition
A water hazard in golf is any body of water on the course that can affect play. This includes ponds, lakes, rivers, and even ditches filled with water. It presents an obstacle to golfers and often requires a penalty if a ball lands in it. Unlike regular grass, you can't ground your club in a water hazard. Think of it as a liquid trap designed to make the game more challenging. It adds an element of risk and strategy to each shot.
