Definition
Wolffiella is a genus of very small, rootless aquatic plants, similar to wolffia but often slightly larger and more flattened. These plants float on the surface of still or slow-moving water, forming colonies that look like green dust. They lack distinct stems or leaves, absorbing nutrients directly from the water. Wolffiella are often found in nutrient-rich environments, thriving in ponds and ditches. They play a role in aquatic ecosystems, providing food and habitat for small organisms. Consider it the minimalist version of a water lily.
