Definition
"Wood ibis" is a name sometimes used for the wood stork (Mycteria americana). This large wading bird is found in wetlands and coastal areas of the Americas. They have long legs, a long neck, and a distinctive down-curved bill. They feed primarily on fish and other aquatic creatures. Although "wood ibis" is used, the term "wood stork" is more accurate since they belong to the stork family and not the ibis family. Think of it like calling a square a rectangle β technically correct, but not the most precise term.
