Definition
A xylophone is a percussion instrument consisting of a set of wooden bars of different lengths that are struck with mallets to produce musical notes. The bars are arranged in a similar way to a piano keyboard, allowing the player to create melodies and harmonies. Think of it as a wooden keyboard you play with sticks. The sound is bright and percussive. Xylophones are commonly used in orchestras, bands, and as educational instruments for children. It is similar to a marimba, but without resonators.
