Definition
A nerve cell, also known as a neuron, is the fundamental unit of the nervous system. It's responsible for transmitting electrical and chemical signals throughout the body. Think of it as the messenger of your body, carrying information from one place to another. Nerve cells have a cell body, dendrites (receiving signals), and an axon (sending signals). They communicate with each other at synapses. They're essential for everything from thinking to moving. Without nerve cells, we couldn't function.
